Buhari is Repeating Economic Error He Made As Dictator 30 Years Ago [The Economist]

  1. New
The Economist has warned that Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari is making an economic blunder by refusing to devalue Nigeria’s currency, the naira.

The news magazine said “Instead of letting the naira depreciate to reflect the country’s loss of purchasing power, Mr Buhari’s government is trying to keep it aloft.”

Two Important Management Lessons You All Must Learn From A 500 Naira Note (Must See)

MAKE A MOVE
1. It happened some time ago. I was in an audience listening to a motivational speaker. The speaker got out his wallet & pulled out a 500 Naira note. Holding it up, he asked, “Who wants this 500 naira note?” Lots of hands went up. Including mine. A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout “Me!” “Me!” I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose. And I also secretly wondered (and I am sure others did too) why he would simply give away 500 naira.
Even as the shouts of “I want it” grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran upon to the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the five 500 naira note from his hand. “Well done, young lady,” said the speaker into the microphone.
The speaker simply say “Most of us just sit and wait for good things to happen. That’s of no use. You’ve got to make things happen. Make a move” ‘Simply thinking about doing something is of no use and not good enough’. Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things. But the problem is we don’t take action. We all want the 500 naira notes on offer. But we don’t make the move. We look at it longingly. Get up, and do something about it. Don’t worry about what other people might think.
TAKE ACTION
2. Later, the speaker got another 500 naira note and held it up for all to see, I thought I knew what’s up. But he just asked a simple question. “How much is this worth?” “Five Hundred naira!” the crowd yelled in unison. “Right,” said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked “How much is it worth now?”
“Five Hundred naira!” screamed the audience. He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: “And how much is it worth now?” “Five Hundred naira!” was the response. “I want you to remember this,” said the speaker. “Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish. We should all be like the 500 naira note.. In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish. Just because someone chooses to crush you — that doesn’t change your worth one bit!
Don’t allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty or does something dirty to you.” Never let your self-worth diminish.
Culled from Nairaland.

Seize any money I own in foreign accounts – Akpabio dares Buhari

Godswill-Akpabio1A former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio has denied owning any property in Dubai, United Arab Emirate or any other foreign country. He then challenged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to seize any money found in a foreign bank account bearing his name.
The Senate Minority Leader stated this on Friday in a statement issued by his media assistant, Anietie Ekong, where he denied a newspaper report that he had made a secret attempt to withdraw $7.2 billion from banks in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, through channels in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had recently signed agreements with the United Arab Emirate on the repatriation of Nigeria’s stolen funds deposited in that country. This move is believed to have unsettled corrupt, former and serving Nigerians officials, who have unexplained wealth and property there.

I won’t kill naira – Buhari rejects devaluation.

I won’t kill naira – Buhari rejects devaluation.

buhari gasPresident Muhammadu Buhari has declared late Wednesday in Nairobi that he was yet to be convinced that Nigeria and its people will derive any tangible benefit from an official devaluation of the Naira.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President was quoted as saying at an interactive meeting with Nigerians living in Kenya, that while export-driven economies could benefit from devaluation of their currencies, devaluation will only result in further inflation and hardship for the poor and middle classes in Nigeria’s import-dependent economy.
The President added that he had no intention of bringing further hardship on the country’s poor who, he said, have suffered enough already.
Likening devaluing the Naira to having it “killed”, President Buhari said that proponents of devaluation will have to work much harder to convince him that ordinary Nigerians will gain anything from it.
The President also rejected suggestions that the Central Bank of Nigeria should resume the sale of foreign exchange to Bureaux de Change (BDCs), saying that the Bureau de Change business had become a scam and a drain on the economy.
“We had just 74 of the bureaux in 2005, now they have grown to about 2,800,” President Buhari noted.
He alleged that some bank and government officials used surrogates to run the BDCs and prosper at public expense by obtaining foreign exchange from government at official rates and selling it at much higher rates.
“We will use our foreign exchange for industry, spare parts and the development of needed infrastructure.
“We don’t have the Dollars to give to the BDCs. Let them go and get it from wherever they can, other than the Central Bank,” President Buhari was quoted to have told the gathering.
The President reaffirmed his conviction that about a third of petroleum subsidy payments under the previous administration was bogus.
“They just stamped papers and collected our foreign exchange,” he said.
The President appealed to Nigerians studying abroad to bear with his administration as it strives to address the challenges they are facing as a result of new foreign exchange measures.
He said that he was optimistic that the Nigerian economy will stabilize soon with the efficient implementation of measures and policies that have been introduced by his administration.

LOL! Eritrea Forced Polygamy Report Is FALSE Story.

LOL! Eritrea Forced Polygamy Report Is FALSE Story.

Polygamy
Oops, Standard Newspaper on Monday published the story and misled all of us, LOL. A satirical story that Eritrean men have been ordered to marry at least two wives, which has been shared across Africa has turned out to be FALSE.
“Even a madman in [the Eritrean capital] Asmara would know that this story was not true,” an Eritrean official told the BBC.
The hoax was first published online on a Kenyan news site called Crazy Monday. Some men have even declared their readiness to relocate to Eritrea to find a new wife.
Crazy Monday, which is published by the Standard newspaper, is well known for its focus on scandalous stories and gossip as part of an attempt to attract a younger readership, says Mathias Muindi from the BBC’s media monitoring service unknown to us.
But this has gone wide in so many African countries with Nigeria and South Africa taking the lead.
As you know, it has been trending on Nigerian Twitter for days with some sharing links to the Eritrea’s visa application documents. Some male celebrities have even joked about relocating to Eritrea with so many memes also been passed around. So now you know, it’s false, let it slide.  Sorry to all the guyz who are preparing to travel there.. oyo is your case…

Missing Arms Money Suspects, Real Sponsors Of Boko Haram – Borno Elders

SAMBO DASUKI 1
The Borno Elders Forum has said persons being fingered in the controversial theft of funds meant to purchase arms for soldiers combating insurgency in northeast Nigeria are the real sponsors of Boko Haram.
The group said President Muhammadu Buhari should not waste time searching for those funding Boko Haram as the arms deal controversy had uncovered those to be punished for the mess in the north east.
The elders said: “Much has been said about the sponsors of Boko Haram. With the horrifying revelations about the ‘Arms Deal’, it is no longer necessary to continue delaying the search for the real sponsors of Boko Haram.
Those who collected such huge sums of money from the national treasury and converted same for their unending greed and avarice should be regarded as part and parcel of the sponsors of Boko Haram. Get them and you will get the rest.
“The people who sponsored the activities of Boko Haram or those who deliberately turned away from their official responsibilities on security issues, or those who looted the funds meant for the prosecution of the war against Boko Haram, and those who spoke or continue to speak in their favour are all one and the same.
“They all individually and collectively aided and sponsored the Boko Haram insurgency. They colluded to ensure the death of our brave soldiers, our innocent people and the near total destruction of our society.
Nigerians should stand by us and collectively assist to bring those responsible to book.”
The elders, who had been a strong critical voice at the way and manner the former government went about prosecuting the Boko Haram insurgency, said the revelations had vindicated them.
“Since the outbreak of the Boko Haram uprising in 2009 to date, the Borno Elders Forum had been voicing out at every critical stage of the crisis, proffering possible ways of addressing very critical security and social issues.
“However, until the advent of the current government under President Muhammadu Buhari, we were ignored.
We are somehow relieved that not only the present government but the generality of our Nigerian compatriots are now showing great understanding and compassion on our sorry state of existence.”
Borno elders stated this in a statement signed by their chairman, Ambassador Gaji Galtimari.
“We feel hurt and betrayed that some Nigerians are politicizing this despicable issue of ‘Arms Deal.’
People are rushing to our courts of law to manipulate the law, taking cover under the canopy of the constitution and misinterpreted human rights dicta to confuse the nation.
Even the constitution itself has balanced interests of people against the interest of individuals.
“In this case, the interest of the victims should prevail when it comes to justice.”

  1. Owing to Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka’s prediction of possible assassination plot against President Muhammadu Buhari, a group, Buhari South-East Youth Movement, BSEYM, has threatened to shut down the country if anything ugly happens to the President as prophesised by the Rev. Father.

BSEYM advised anyone or group with such evil plan to have a rethink “because such will spell doom for not just the country.”

    bha.jpe

According to the leader of the group, Mr. Nwabueze Onwuneme, the group has expressed its support for President Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

It called on anyone with any knowledge of any ploy against the President or the country to immediately divulge such to law enforcement agents.

According to the group, Mbaka’s prediction should not be dismissed with a wave of hands because “corruption really fights back dirty when attacked.”

It called on all well-meaning Nigerians to resist the evil work of “this small group that wants to kill this country,” and which had improvised the masses, and support President Buhari in his effort to sanitize the country.

Kwara Teachers to Begin Strike Tomorrow Posted on Jan 3 2016 - 6:50pm by Independent Kwaran

Kwara Teachers to Begin Strike Tomorrow

Posted on Jan 3 2016 - 6:50pm byIndependent Kwaran
THE Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in Kwara says primary school teachers in the state will embark on strike on Monday to protest the non-payment of their four months’ salary arrears.
The Chairman of the union, Musa Abubakar, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara .
The strike action will begin just when schools are expected to resume from their first term holiday.
Mr. Abubakar said that the union could no longer guarantee industrial harmony in the state following the non-payment of their four months’ salary arrears.
He said that the primary school teachers in the state had been loyal and dedicated to duty in spite of the failure of the government to pay them salaries for months.
“I want to believe they have tried. If the members of the National Assembly are not paid for four months, I doubt if you will see anybody in the red or green chambers.
“I recall in Oyo State, they were not paid for just two months and some House of Assembly members did not go to work.
“So for us to have worked for four months without pay, I think the teachers have tried and that is why we told the government that we cannot guarantee any industrial harmony again.
“We cannot guarantee any teacher going to class on Monday to teach with an empty stomach except the problem is addressed,” he said.
He explained that the union would start a sit-at-home strike action beginning on Monday to press home its demand.
According to him, workers from other sectors will soon join in the strike action in the spirit of solidarity.
The NUT leader criticised the state government for creating a dichotomy between primary schools teachers and their counterparts in the secondary schools.
He said that a Supreme Court judgment in 2002 had made state governments responsible for the management and funding of primary schools in the country.
“It is just unfortunate that a situation like this revolves around primary school teachers in the country.
“I want to say without mincing words that if that trend should continue, the primary school system will soon collapse,” the union leader stated.
Mr. Abubakar, therefore, urged the state government to live up to its responsibilities by doing the right thing.
“Education is the key and the bedrock of our development particularly at the grassroots.
“If this trend is not checked, honestly, this country will run into a problem.
“So I would, therefore, urge the federal, state, and local governments to ensure that the ugly trend is checked,” he said.
He said that once that was done, the proliferation of private primary schools due to the public’s loss of confidence in public schools would be checked.
